SOPHIA TAILLET

SOPHIA TAILLET

SOPHIA TAILLET IS A FRENCH DESIGNER, A GRADUATE OF THE ÉCOLE NATIONALE SUPÉRIEURE DES ARTS DÉCORATIFS DE PARIS, WHO ALSO TRAINED AT THE SCHOOL OF VISUAL ARTS IN NEW YORK. AT THE CROSSROADS OF ART AND DESIGN, HER WORK IS DISTINGUISHED BY A SENSITIVE EXPLORATION OF MATERIAL AS A VEHICLE FOR CREATION. IMMERSED IN THE HEART OF ARTISAN WORKSHOPS, SHE CONDUCTS IN-DEPTH RESEARCH INTO TRADITIONAL CRAFTSMANSHIP, IN A CONTEXT MARKED BY THE SCARCITY OF NATURAL RESOURCES. DRAWING INSPIRATION FROM THE ARTISAN'S GESTURES, SHE CONCEIVES SCULPTURAL OBJECTS THAT REINVENT OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH MATTER. HER WORK HAS BEEN EXHIBITED IN RENOWNED INSTITUTIONS SUCH AS THE PALAIS DE TOKYO AND THE BIENNALE D'ARCHITECTURE DE VERSAILLES, AND HER VENUS LUMINAIRE, MADE OF BLOWN GLASS, IS NOW PART OF THE OFFICIAL COLLECTION OF THE MOBILIER NATIONAL. AS A RECIPIENT OF THE MONDES NOUVEAUX PROGRAM, SHE EXHIBITED TIME EROSION AT THE FONDATION RICARD IN 2022, A RESEARCH PROJECT BLENDING CHOREOGRAPHIC AND ARTISANAL GESTURES, QUESTIONING THE PLACE OF MOVEMENT IN DESIGN. IN 2024, SHE WILL PRESENT SPINNING AROUND DURING PARIS DESIGN WEEK, AND THEN AT THE COLLECTIBLE FAIR. THIS COLLECTION OF METAL MIRRORS AND LUMINAIRES, RESULTING FROM A UNIQUE COLLABORATION BETWEEN A DANCER AND AN ARTISAN, CONVEYS LIGHTNESS THROUGH A CONTROLLED ROTATIONAL MOVEMENT. THROUGH THIS BOLD REINTERPRETATION OF DESIGN CODES, SOPHIA TAILLET INJECTS A DIMENSION THAT IS BOTH POETIC AND AERIAL INTO EVERYDAY OBJECTS, REINVENTING THEIR RELATIONSHIP TO SPACE AND MOVEMENT.
