JULES LOBEGEOIS
"BORN IN 1994, I LIVE AND WORK IN A VILLAGE IN HAUTS-DE-FRANCE (FR) SURROUNDED BY FORESTS.
TRAINED IN DESIGN AT ENSAAMA OLIVIER DE SERRES (2012-2015, PARIS), THEN AT LAAB (2015-2017, RENNES) WHERE I OBTAINED MY HIGHER DIPLOMA IN APPLIED ARTS, I HEADED TOWARDS SCULPTURE AT THE END OF MY STUDIES. IT WAS WHILE WORKING IN THE BANNEEL WORKSHOP RESTORING JEAN PROUVÉ STRUCTURES THAT I DISCOVERED STEEL WORK. MY TASTE FOR SOLID WOOD SCULPTURE CAME TO ME THROUGH CONTACT WITH THE BELGIAN ARTIST KASPAR HAMACHER.
IN 2018 I SET UP MY WORKSHOP IN OISE WHERE I CREATE UNIQUE PIECES COMBINING WOOD FROM THE SURROUNDING FORESTS WITH STEEL, COPPER AND BRASS.
I MAKE SCULPTURAL OBJECTS WHOSE MATERIALS, DESIGNED AS VOLUMES OF CAPTION AND REFRACTION, REVEAL SHADOW AND LIGHT.
MY WAY OF SCULPTING IS SPONTANEOUS, IT IS ON CONTACT WITH WOOD OR STEEL THAT THE SHAPES ARE DEFINED IN A PERMANENT RETURN BETWEEN THE MATERIAL AND MY TOOLS.
MY PIECES ARE PRESENTED AT THE TOOLSGALERIE IN PARIS, AT ST. VINCENTS IN ANTWERP, BELGIUM AND AT THE PHILIA GALLERY."
